We did a little bit of house hunting when we came up for Allan's interview in November. After looking at a few homes we decide we should just get an apartment and take our time looking at houses and also look into building.
We had my Mom create a house plan for us (which turned out awesome!) and asked our realtor to submit it to several contractors in the area. Our realtor warned us that building prices are pretty high right now, but we still hoped we could build. Unfortunately the bids came back way too high for us to consider and making any changes to our house plan still wouldn't make it possible for us to build. We can get a much larger home for less cost than it would be to build a smaller home with an unfinished basement and yard!
So we are going to buy a home.
Good decision guys! It’s always very hard to pick a house, much less look for one. It is never a wise choice to just settle for something. You must be completely comfortable with the choice you’re making, since you’re going to be living in it for a while or for the rest of your lives, right? Building a house could be as good as buying one, since you can turn the latter into however you like through ample renovations. Still, it’s great that you looked into all the options before making a decision. Have you picked a house already? I hope things turned out according to your plans. Good day!

Denise - We bought a house a few months ago and are just finishing up the changes we wanted to make. We want to do some bigger renovations in the future, but for now we are loving our house!

Building a small house is indeed better than renting since it is all yours when you build one. So, how are the floor plan and other matters going in your house now?
